In 2007, MCEA and the Sierra Club commissioned a report by Prof. Tom Powers on the economic impact of all mining in northern Minnesota. The report found that the three mining counties have recovered nicely after the collapse of the taconite mines through other businesses, many of them dependent on the beauty and supply of the natural resources there.
