Xcel has submitted a resource plan that proposes to repower its remaining coal units at the Black Dog power plant in Burnsville with natural gas.  MCEA and our partners applaud that decision.

But Xcel’s plan is silent on the future of its coal units at Sherco, which are much larger and emit much more pollution, including greenhouse gases. The Plan assumes that these large coal units will continue to operate, even beyond their book life.

Xcel released an update to their IRP in December.
