Webinar recording: Safeguarding the Minnesota River

Safeguarding the Minnesota River

Did you know that for several decades, the Minnesota River has been considered one of the most polluted rivers in the country?

Watch our webinar “Safeguarding the Minnesota River: legal solutions to agricultural pollution” to learn more about where that pollution comes from and the legal tools we have to help clean up this important watershed.

Loss of wetlands for tillable acreage and altering the landscape has increased runoff, swiftly moving contaminants into downstream areas. In 2008, the Minnesota River was listed on American Rivers’ top 10 most endangered rivers in the U.S. Today, excessive sediment and nutrient concentrations remain a serious problem for our state’s namesake river.

MCEA Chief Legal Officer Leigh Currie, MCEA Water Program Director Carly Griffith, and Patrick Belmont, a professor in the Department of Watershed Sciences at Utah State University, take a deep dive into this pressing issue.
